Washington is a state in the northwest region of the United States. The state was named after the first president of the United States, George Washington. The state is commonly called the state of Washington or Washington State to make a distinction between the state and the United States Capital Washington DC. Washington State is also nicknamed as “Evergreen State” because of the evergreen trees in the forests and the adequate rain keeps up the growth of grasses and shrubs throughout the year. Charles T. CONOVER of Seattle first proposed this Nickname in 1890.
This State is quite blessed with wonderful green forests and parks including Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, North Cascades National Park, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Okanogan National Forest, Wenatchee National Forest, Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National forest and Colville National forest. Due to the abundance of that many forests and parks, this state has not only gained the nickname of Evergreen State but there is also a great positive effect on the climate and weather making it a perfect tourist destination.
Some of the major cities in the state include Seattle, Spokane, Bellevue, Everett, Kent, Renton, Yakima, Tacoma and Vancouver. Seattle is the largest city of the state but the capital is Olympia.
