The cemetery and the surrounding city were sunk below the sea level after a volcanic eruption of the 1870s. The eruption gave birth to Mt. Vulcan. You cannot find any gravestones or flowers to mark the graves except a giant cross in the sea. This cross has been built to commemorate the lost people of Camiguin. The place is filled with loads of enchantment and legends. You can either take a boat to reach the cross or dive into the sea to get close to the lost city.
The Mansion Ruins, Talisay
The mansion was built by Don Mariono Ledesma Lacson in the early 20th century in memory of his wife. It had ten bedrooms with predominant Italian style. The mansion was set on fire by the Filipino guerrillas during WWII so that invading Japanese troops could not use it for headquarters.
Their aim was the complete annihilation of the place but the foundation and walls remained intact after several days of smouldering. After decades, its gardens were renovated and it was opened for public. You can get a picture-perfect view and enjoy local cuisine at the restaurant.
Hanging Coffins, Sagada
You may have heard of many burial rituals but hanging coffins is something different. This ritual is followed by Sagada people. Every elder hand carved own coffin from hollowed logs. However, if they are not healthy, their family members do this task.
The corpse is placed in the coffin which is brought to a cave but instead of placing or burying, it is hung inside the cave or on the cliff. You should maintain a respectful distance from the coffins.
