Lima is the largest city and the capital of Peru. Located in the central part of the country in the valleys of the Rimac, Chillon and Lurin rivers it is a beautiful place to visit and is a major tourist destination in Peru. Lima is the fifth largest city in Latin Americas with the population of about nine million. Lima is the cultural, political, economic, industrial and financial center of the nation. This city has numerous historic sites, buildings that are master pieces of architecture, many beautiful parks, museums, theaters and concert halls and many other recreational places.
Lima is also well known for its lively nightlife, there are many discos, bars and nightclubs in the city where you can have fun in drinking, dancing and a lot of music. Going to a nightclub on weekends is going to be a lot more fun then in other week days as most of the clubs are filled to there limit but if you don’t like to be in that much crowds you should not be there on Saturday night.
Another major tourist attraction is the Historic Center of Lima. The districts of Rimac and Lima together make up this beautiful place. The Historic Center of Lima was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Some of the must to see historic sites include Palace of Torre Tagle, Covenant of Santo Domingo, Monastery of San Francisco, Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral.
Lima is home to the largest airport in the country, Jorge Chavez International Airport serves as a major hub in the Latin America. This airport is the primary airport serving for most of the international flights to Lima and also caters domestic flights, chartered flights and cargo flights. The city is served by other smaller airports too, including the Collique Airport and Santa Maria del Mar and has a great network of highways connecting the city not only to the rest of the country but also with the countries bordering Peru.
Public transport includes buses and mini buses, taxis are also available but these are a little more expensive.
