The Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi is reminiscent of the fact that the city is overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian. This Cathedral is a national landmark of the city. Though it is very recently constructed but it sis proud to be one the tallest Eastern Orthodox Cathedral in the entire world. the main and the famous Cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church is commonly known as Sameba which in local language means trinity.
The Cathedral was built to commemorate the 1500 years of autocephaly and 2000 years of the birth of Jesus in the present era. The Sameba Cathedral is built on hill on the side of a river near the town of Old Tbilisi. The exotic location of the Cathedral gives this holy place much more serenity. The Cathedral is cruciform church that has a gold dome resting upon eight columns. There are nine chapels in it built from natural materials including the marble floors. The altars in the chapels are decorated with mosaic and there are also the paintings of the murals in there.
In the near vicinity there is also a free standing bell tower, a monastery, clerical seminary, theological academy, and several other miscellaneous places to learn and to rest for a while. The place is a must go to witness the theological spirit of the country which is well exhibited in the pristine architecture of the Cathedral.
