The beautiful Bwindi national park is situated in the south-western area of Uganda (East Africa) along the border of Congo near Virunga national park at the western end of Great Rift Valley and is very famous for the most plentiful eco-system of Africa. It has also been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and thousands of people head towards this fascinating natural area annually, by taking cheap flights to Uganda. If you desire to spend some of your leisure time with the animals of water, soil, sunlight and air, then without giving it a second thought, just take a voyage to the magnificent Bwindi Park.
The park comprises an area of about 331 square kilometres and possesses both lowland and montane forests. The underlying surface of the park contains granite, schist, quartzite, quartz and Precambrian shale phyllite and the conformation of the park is very craggy along with the small-sized valley, bisected by steep cliffs and rivers. The peaks are heighted at the elevation that range from 3,900 to 8,553 feet and almost 60 percent of the land has the height of more than 6,600 feet. The highest altitude of the park is Rwamunyonyi hill and is located in the eastern side where as the northern area consist of the lower parts. the forest is the origin of many rivers that flow towards south, west and north such as Ihihizo, Munyaga, Ivi, Ntengyere and Ishasha and they all fall into the Edward lake. Biwindi is considered to be the best water-supplier for local agriculture and irrigation.
It provides shelter to almost 120 breeds of mammals, 220 breeds of butterflies, 348 breeds of birds and 27 distinctive breeds of geckos, chameleons, frogs and some endangered breeds. If talking about the floras, this alluring forest is included in the list of most diverse forests of Africa which is the habitat for almost 1,000 various species of flowers with 104 breeds of ferns and 163 breeds of trees. Its northern part is very rich in the rare breed of Guineo-Congolian flora which is further categorized as Brazzeia longipedicellata and Brown mahogany (Lovoa swynnertonii). The forest is also very well known because it provides shelter to almost 340 gorillas which are the 50 percent of mountain gorillas of the world. The census that was conducted in 2006 remarkably showed that the population of these gorillas has increased from 320 to 340. Other than the mountain gorillas there are a number of Monkey, Common, African elephant, Cream-banded Swallowtail, Broadbill, red, black and white colobus, giant forest hog, and vervets.
The park offers tented camps, economical rooms and private lodges for their convenience. The major attraction for all the travelers is the Gorilla Tracking and the responses from the gorilla’s side truly enthral them. Besides you can also have fun with the Guided Walks to observe birds, monkeys and picturesque waterfalls. Apart from the rainy season, all the other seasons are best to visit the Bwindi national park. The natives residing near-by are always ready to help the visitors with their hospitality and good nature.
