As the myth of global warming is becoming a reality with each passing year, many countries of the world have vowed to preserve their forests as a safeguard against this pending calamity. But most of these vows have not metalized yet and deforestation is a phenomenon that is still threatening the survival of our planet. One country though is putting some real efforts to not only preserve its forests but also to protect the habitats of its exotic wildlife.
It’s the African nation of Gabon where the government has proclaimed the 10 percent of the total land mass of the country as a national park. This effort while being helpful in reducing the effects of global warming worldwide is also providing the nation will a lot of revenue in the form of the growing eco tourism industry.
One national park of Gabon is receiving a special attention from the tourists because of its unique combination of a vast jungle and a long shoreline that stretches for more than 200 sq miles. This is the Loango National Park, which is famous for its high concentration of many of the Africa’s big five mammals that live in its jungle and also for the large numbers of whales and dolphins along its shoreline. Its shoreline is a perfect example of an African lagoon where thousands of different species of fish thrive with a threat by the humans. Because of the human encroachments into the habitats of the African land and sea animals it is hard to find such a perfect eco system in any other part of the continent.
Gabon is one of the safest places for travel in Africa and has some of the friendliest locals. The only problem with a vacation in Gabon in general and Loango National Park in particular is the lack of infrastructure. Although you can easily find a cheap flight to Libreville the capital of Gabon which is a quite modern city but the roads leading out of the city are in pretty bad shape so you will require hiring a 4wd for making a journey to the park.
The journey to the park may seem a little hectic but you will surely not get disappointed when you reach there. The park has 1550 sq. miles of unaltered jungle which is full of exotic African wildlife, it has a pristine beach which has the softest of the sand that you will ever find in the continent and you will find its waters full of whales and dolphins.
The park can not be explored properly in a single day tour so we recommend that you stay there for a couple of nights for which you can lodge in any of the resorts of the park. The best way for exploring the park is to take a guided tour in the company of a park ranger who will know where to take you to find the highest concentration of the wildlife and will also know what to do in case an unexpected danger emerges.
