Magnificent La Digue, Seychelles

While Mahe and Praslin are the larger islands of Seychelles with a much better tourism infrastructure and are recipients of the bulk of the tourist traffic to the country, La Digue is famous with tourists that are looking for peace, solitude and a relaxing atmosphere for their vacation which can’t be found in these bigger islands because of the chaos created by the tourists. La Digue also has the best beaches of Seychelles, the most famous being the L’Anse Source D’Argent which is thought to be one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world.

The tourist traffic to La Digue has increased quite a bit in the last few years which has resulted in a massive improvement in the tourism infrastructure here but the island has maintained its exclusivity to most extent. There are many small islands just off the coast of La Digue which are perfect for the tourists that want even more solitude.

There is no international airport in La Digue so you will be taking a cheap flight to Seychelles. La Digue has a small helipad from where regular helicopter service runs from Mahe and Praslin but its cost can be a little too over whelming for a common tourist. So instead you can get yourself a place in the regular ferry service that runs between Praslin and La Digue which is both cost effective and will provide you with an awesome sightseeing experience along the way as well. If you are interested in island hopping and want to visit the other small but beautiful islands along the way then you can also hire a boat for taking you to La Digue fom Praslin but this option will cost you about 15 times more than what you can expect to pay for a seat on a regular ferry service. The tourism infrastructure of the island has improved a lot so you can easily find a hotel according to taste and budget.

You will find most of tourists heading to the famous L’Anse Source D’Argent which is famous for its picture perfect settings because of the pink granite rocks that are spread along the coast line. The beaches here are some of the whitest and softest that you will ever find in any other part of the world. Although it is quite famous with the tourists heading to La Digue but because of their remoteness you can easily find deserted places for getting a full body tan. The beaches are perfect for all kind of activities ranging from just lying on their soft sand and soaking in the sun rays to scuba diving in the waters along the shoreline.

There are quite a few resorts along this beach and you can easily get the equipment for snorkelling and scuba diving which are the favourite tourist activities because the water along La Digue is rich in marine life and has quite a few coral reefs whose exploration can be highly entertaining. To explore the gorgeous island you can also hire a bicycle from your resort and make excursions inland. The nightlife of La Digue may not be as lively as in Mahe but it will surely provide you with a few memorable evenings.
