‘Imagination and fiction make up more than three-quarters of our real life.’ ~Simone Weil
Beth Watson understood well what Simone Weil meant and thus to the three-quarters of our real life he added an imaginative fiction called ‘Spookers’ somewhere on the south of Auckland, New Zealand. Spookers is a haunted theme house and what makes it bizarre is its location; grounds of an abandoned mental hospital. This place is considered to be one hell of an experience to give you shivers down the spine, leaving you panting with your eyeballs drooling.
Let’s give you a chance to prove the man you are. Allow half dead people to come out of the walls and haunt you in the most unimaginably innovative forms with you either having your heart pounding out or having you running for your life, screaming out loud.
Spookers has three attractions; the former nurse’s quarter transformed into a haunted house, the Freaky Forest and the 3-D Maze. The haunted house has 28 themed rooms such as the Autopsy Room and Butcher’s Room. Each room has actors dressed according to the theme n they’d pop up when you’re least expecting them in the most horrified disguise, with blood over them, some of them crawling towards you as if to suck all the blood in your veins. The second is the Freaky Forest which is a shingled walkway through dense forest filled with props and disguised beasts. Characters like Chucky and Freddy Kruger would make you run for your life. The third and the latest is the 3-D Maze with graffiti walls. For this you have to wear special glasses and the paint would seem to splash out of the walls leaving you struggling to figure out what’s real and what’s not! If you are too freaked out then you could just throw your hands up and ask for mercy and you’d be led out of the place.
It’s time to stop telling people stories about your bravery and getting down to the ground and proving yourself right with actions. How about your feet glued to the ground and you feeling a vine growing rapidly, creeping up, strangling both your legs. What if a force grabs your hand and pulls you towards it without you knowing where and who is playing dirty with you. This creepy adventure awaits you with a lot many what ifs and how abouts. Other than being a brave being, try feeding your child inside with some quality entertainment.
Not being a good idea to even think, of bringing the young ones to this arena as it is only for people 16 and above. For those who want their kids to be equally brave, a friendly suggestion to the folks: bring them to “Shiver and Shake” on Saturdays in the day time from 11am to 4pm which is considered to be a hard time for the kids. It’s a “lights on”, “no-actor” tour of the Haunted House and the age limit is restricted to 8 years and older.
Also, if you are visiting Auckland from a foreign country advance reservation is recommended to get your hands on the cheapest flights to Auckland. While consider making a reservation at the Spookers if you want to save some time.
Really good news for the Corporate sector that all the annual dinners, employee day and numerous events can now be held in the arena with exciting different themes and accommodating almost 110 corporate fellows. Add some spice to your gatherings and unleash the human inside a stern corporate official.
One of the most interesting things at Spookers is its café menu with “Food to Die For” with dishes named as ‘Beast Burger –Bashed & Bloodied(marinated) beef rump’, ‘Tender Chicken laid to rest on crisp lettuce’ , ‘Grilled Baby Fingers’ and ‘Little Lucifer’ which surely are as scrumptious as disgusting they sound.
Entry to hell opens only on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30pm with the last entry at 10:30 pm. The dead call the Alive for some fun.
