Stunning Sahara – Where Heaven and Earth meets

When you think of a desert, what comes to your mind? A huge barren sandy landscape, with not many activities to do in, Right? That’s not true though if you are thinking about Sahara, the world’s largest hot desert. Sure it is hot as the sun, dry as a bone and you will not find any vegetation in the area for miles. But for the very same reason that it is barren, it makes it special: you can feel the appeal in your heart as soon as you put your foot on its sand. It’s like stepping into an abstract piece of art.

The mystical experience of spending a night out in the Sahara can be the most memorable moment of your life. The experience of staying overnight between low dunes and limitless sky cannot be expressed into words.

Sahara comprises the most parts of 11 countries namely Algeria, Sudan, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Western Sahara. You can choose to venture into Sahara from any one of these places. Considering the present turmoil in the northern Africa, it will be safer and cheaper to visit it in Morocco or Mauritania. If you choose Mauritania, then you’ll be flying to Nouakchott, the Mauritanian Capital. Do not expect much from this city for leisure and luxury. There is not much sightseeing there either, but then you are not there for Nouakchott but for Sahara.

You can easily find yourself a nice 4×4 vehicle and a professional and trustworthy local guide. After an hour drive in the north of the city, you will catch the first glimpses of Sahara’s, low beige sand dunes. You can take a track to the west from the edge of the desert and after a few minutes drive you will find yourself staring at the vast waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Right at the edge of the water, the slowly moving sand dunes of Sahara stop there march and so should you. Take out your tent and prepare yourself for an overnight stay at the shores of Atlantic and on the edge of the largest desert of the world.

It’s the night time when you start feeling the attraction of the desert. Imagine lying on your mat staring at the clear sky with millions of glittering stars. With no other sound but the slow wind moving the sand dunes coupled with the sound of waves of the ocean. This is the ideal place to find the peace and tranquillity.

You can also take the camel trek if you want to explore the desert in a more nomadic way. Other preferred countries for the adventure into Sahara are Algeria and Morocco. So take a nice cheap flight to Algiers, Nouakchott or Rabat and take the mystical adventure to stunning Sahara.
