The lower Zambezi valley is a large breach in the outer cover of the earth which acts as a passage for the flow of a powerful river. The soil enriched with minerals that have deposited over millions of years has nourished the lush green plantation while the oxbow lakes and old zigzag paths add to the allurement of the area. The national park is located on the northern shore of Zambezi River in the southeastern side of Zambia and the park is very famous as it offers many gleaming and luxurious camps for stay- a source of great attraction for the visitors who take cheap flights to Lusaka to have a thrilling adventure among the wildlife.
Chiawa Camp: The family-owned and unpretentious Chiawa camp is located in the centre of Lower Zambezi National Park. That offers you to view an excellent game. The camp stands on the lush green banks of river Zambezi and offers the most magnificent vistas of unfettered nature which also overlook Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park. The camp has its settlement under the orchard of mahogany trees which are the source of soothing shade in the hot summer season. The Chiawa camp is very famous for offering a number of interesting activities such as boat trips, canoeing, walking safaris and game drives on 4WDs.
Rest easy as there are many professional and expert guides, always ready to help you in the complicated paths of the region. The park will provide you plenty of opportunities to spot many buffalos, leopards, lions and elephants and if you are lucky enough, you may encounter wild dogs and zebras but this place is not the habitat of cheetahs and giraffes. Besides the close vicinity of the camp also served as the focal point for many colourful birds like lilac-breasted rollers, pied kingfishers, malachite, spur-winged geese and giant eagle owl. The camp is composed of 9 tents all ornamented with world-class furniture, private decks and en-suite bathroom and are elevated on a wooden base.
Sausage Tree Camp: Adjacent to the junction of Zambezi River and Chifungulu Channel, there lies the beautiful Sausage tree camp encircled by the most picturesque landscapes. The camp faces the huge sausage trees whose branches provide shelter to many kingfishers. A refreshing cocktail and damp cloth with welcoming faces is what you get at the entrance along with the feeling of tranquillity and relaxation. The camp offers 8 Bedouin-designed tents along with red walls and white woven fabric floors. A little far from the main entrance you will find the turquoise, azure and crystal clear water pool, overlooking the Zambezi river. The most thrilling activity at the camp is canoe trip which is assisted by professionals and you will get plenty of chances to encounter crocodiles and hippos along the water channels.
Old Mondoro Bushcamp: Though simple but offers an intimate exclusive ambience- the Old Mondoro Bushcamp is located on the edge of River Zambezi that overlooks the island where the hippos bask and buffalos graze. The camp offers 4 bush chalets adorned with the red walls from three sides, leaving the front side open to having the most spectacular and bewitching views of the surrounding landscapes. The interesting activities that are offered here are canoeing, boat trips and 4WD safari drives. Besides you can just sit calmly in the balcony and view the excellent game of the wildlife. The chalets are elevated on the stilts so they are extremely secure.
Chongwe River Camp: This camp is situated at the confluence of main river the Zambezi and its small streams forming a western line with the national park. Its location is considered to be the ideal one as it is encircled by the most picturesque and attractive sceneries. The camp offers 8 tents with a woven cloth rooftop to keep it cool during the burning summer season. It also owns a gleaming bar and luxurious dining area- the perfect place for friendly conversations and get-togethers. Its speciality is tiger fish which can be found in the river and you will only be able to catch it if some expert is assisting you. The best time of the year to visit the camp is between September and October.
