The 85th Academy Awards will be unfolded on the 24th of February by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) presenting its annual Academy Awards to honour the best films of 2012 in the United States. Firstly, the French movie, ‘Amour’ is nominated for both the Best Picture and Best Foreign Language film after 12 years, the last film to have achieved this honour was ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ in Mandarin in the year 2000. Other than that, several age-related records were also set.
In the best actress category, ‘Emmaneulla Riva’ became the oldest nominee at 85 years old, the record was previously held by ‘Jessica Tandy’ who not only got nominated but also won in 1989 with age of 80 years. Exactly opposite of this, the youngest actress in the Best Actress category was also nominated, the nominee being ‘Quvenzhané Wallis’, at an age of just 9 years.
This record was previously held by ‘Keisha Castle-Hughes’ who was nominated in 2003 for ‘The Whale Rider’ at the age of 13. The romantic comedy-drama film ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ became the first film to be the recipient of nominations in all four acting categories, the last film to do so was Reds in 1981. After 2004’s ‘Million Dollar baby’, in eight years ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ also became the first film to be nominated in the ‘Big Five’ categories.
Also what sets this Oscars 2013 apart is that this is the first time in the history of awards that the Best Supporting Actor category has all the previous winners. The nominations include ‘Alan Arkin’, ‘Tommy Lee Jones’ and ‘Christoph Waltz’ winners of Best Supporting Actor, ‘Phillip Seymour Hoffman’ who has won Best Actor and ‘Robert De Niro’ who has won both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Awards.
It has been confirmed by the Event Producers, ‘Craig Zadan’ and ‘Neil Meron’ that the star cast of ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ will be presenting the awards. “We are happy to re-unite the ‘Avengers’ cast to present on our show,” said Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “Audiences who enjoyed the year’s biggest box office hit will be excited to see these terrific actors back together again.” Get ready to be amazed at guest appearances of incredible stars like ‘Daniel Radcliffe’ and ‘Channing Tatum’ and witness the breathtaking performance by ‘Adele’ as she performs the eponymous theme song of the 23rd James Bond film, ‘Skyfall’.
