With the increasing traffic on routes like Hong Kong – Chinese Taipei, which is the world’s busiest air route and Dublin to London falling second in the world record, airlines are now competing for new turfs. Hong Kong to Chinese Taipei was used by over 4.9 million passengers just last year although experiencing a decrease of 11.5%, this route still remained the busiest air route in the world.
Top airlines such as Aer Lingus, Ryanair, City Jet, Flybe and British Airways are now competing on routes especially between Dublin and the four main London airports. The Dublin to London route experienced an increase in traffic of 6.9% as compared to the figure released in 2012.
It is reported that air travel in the Asia-Pacific region is busier than any other area in the world. This region alone carried over 1.01 billion passengers last year, which is closely followed by Europe which is estimated to have catered to 826 million passengers.
International Air Transport Association revealed figures for the 10 busiest international air routes around the world, the results of which show that more passengers flew from Dublin to London than from London to New York in the previous year.
