Four Small islands located in the Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and Mozambique, called the Comoros Islands, whose name comes from the Arabic for “moon”. If one considers the tourism boom in recent years in other Indian Ocean nations, Comoros may seem a little isolated. But this is exactly the reason why it can be a great place for your vacations.
Comoros boasts all the requirements of a fantasy island, tropical warmth, turquoise waters, and palm trees. As this is close to a neighbour to Seychelles, it has pretty much the same climate and topography. Now the question is if it is so like Seychelles then why it is not regarded as a favourite tourist destination. The answer is the troubled political history of Comoros, with as much as 20 military Coups since it got its freedom from France.
But the things are changing in Comoros, with stability returning to the country, you may find it an attractive destination for your holidays. Comoros has two things going in its favour, first as it is not yet as developed and doesn’t have that much tourist traffic as, neighbouring Seychelles, Comoros is more close to your fantasy island dream with its unaltered natural beauty. Secondly, for the very same reason that there are not many foreign tourists in the country, the prices for accommodation is much lower than other popular destinations. So you can enjoy the same tropical fantasy island of yours, with its warmth, turquoise waters and palm trees with a smaller price tag attached to it.
The four major islands of Comoros are Ngazidja (Grande Comore), Mwali (Moheli), Nzwani (Anjouan), and Maore (Mayotte). You’ll be landing in Ngazidja or the Grande Comore the largest of the 4 islands and the capital of the Union of Comoros. It also has the only international airport of the country, so not much of a choice here. You may not be able to get a direct flight from Europe or Americas for Comoros, best and most cost effective way is to take a direct flight to Nairobi, Kenya and then fly with Kenya Airways to Ngazidja. Air Madagascar and Yemen Airways also offer flights to Comoros from their respective capitals but can be a little “bumpy” sometimes.
Ngazidja has many decent hotels offering service at a considerably lower price than what you will get in the neighbouring countries. Now what to see in Comoros, there is a lot to see here. As I said it is your fantasy tropical island, with sandy beaches, warm sun, palm trees and calm and turquoise water. And the great thing is that it’s still mostly in its natural form, unaltered.
If you are not just there for the beaches, then there is live volcano right in the island of Ngazidja. If you like the adventure hike on ashen gray land, step over sun-bleached dead trees. The setting is beautiful; you can climb a ridge and find yourself in a lunar landscape. You can get a guide from your hotel to assist you there, and camp in the summit of the volcano.
So check with us for more information about flights to Comoros and have a nice vacation in this peaceful Island.
