Johannesburg, also known as Joburg, is the regional capital of Gauteng and is a modern centre combined with the older surroundings. On Sundays you can visit the Heia Safari-Ranch about 38 KM from the town and see the tribal dancers performing. As an alternative to the ranch, you may like to visit the south Ndebele village which is an interesting open air museum showing how the local tribes used to live.
The mall-culture is resembles the American style and you will find many malls targeting youth and teenagers. Some sophisticated malls also exist like the Hyde Park which targets a more “sophisticated-crowd”. Sandton City being the Southern Hemisphere’s largest mall offers everything that a buyer may be interested in. Resembling the Italian Village is the interesting Monte Casino which is actually a mall built-in a complex. Other large malls which may be of interest to you include Rosebank which features an art cinema house, huge variety of shopping goods and a craft market.
