It’s really hard to say what the greatest attraction of South Africa is, its modern cities or the ancient forests. Most travellers limit themselves to the cities, most try to take direct flights to Cape Town that has so much to offer to them that they never try to venture out of it during their stay in the country. But if you ask us, the greatest attraction of South Africa is not in its hip metropolises but in the unique and exotic wildlife of the country. You will find all of the big five animals of the continent in South Africa, and there is no other better way of observing them closely than by taking a safari while riding on the back of an elephant in one of the many gaming reserves of the country.
We are all fond of elephants, they are huge, majestic and observing them closely is a sobering experience indeed. Most people never get a chance to even touch them but if you can make the effort then you can get the chance not only to ride them but to take a tour of about two hours on their back that will take you to the dense forest of Africa with the most praised wildlife of the continent, exciting isn’t ? Other than the excitement of riding the elephant, there is also another advantage of this kind of tour. The smell of the elephant is more powerful than the scent of humans and it is also one that the other animals recognize, so when you get close to animals like rhinos and antelopes they will not gallop away to save their lives and you get a better chance to observe them closely.
There are so many Game Parks in the country that you will be amazed that how can you miss all of them and stick to the cities of Cape Town or Johannesburg. One of the best is the Eastern Cape, here you will have the chance to not only see the big five of Africa but the big seven because along with the dense forest of the park it also has the 12000 ha of marine zone where you can see the great whales and the much-feared great white sharks, of course, your elephant can’t swim in the ocean so you’ll have to take a boat here to observe them closely.
Another famous Game Park is just outside the city of the Sea view Lion Park. You may not be able to see a lot of other wildlife in this park but it offers a unique opportunity to play with the lion cubs. This park has the highest number of lions per square kilometre in the whole of South Africa and is a great place to observe the king of the jungle in its natural habitat. So next time when you go to South Africa, do try this unique safari on the back of an elephant.
