Hong Kong is one of the world’s leading financial centers located in the Peoples Republic of China. Hong Kong is located on the south coast of China, nearly 37 miles east of Macau and is surrounded by the South China Sea from all sides except for the north where it borders the Guangdong city of Shenzhen. Hong Kong is home to nine public universities including The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong and many other private higher education institutions, colleges and schools. Hong Kong is also well known for health care facilities, it is home to more than 50 public hospitals and 15 private hospitals offering the widest range of healthcare facilities available on earth.
Dense population caused the lack of space resulting in the construction of sky-high buildings; there are about 7,650 skyscrapers in Hong Kong making it the top ranked skyscraper city in the world. This city has more buildings higher than 35 meters than any other city in the world; the city is an example of modern architecture and design. Hong Kong is home to the tallest building known as the International Commerce Center being 484 meters high, it is also the third tallest building in the world, and some other notable buildings include the HSBC headquarters Building, Central Plaza, The Center and Two International Finance Center.
Hong Kong has a great and highly developed transportation network consisting of a rail network known as MTR (Mass Transit Railway), This MTR rapid Transit system has nearly 150 stations providing services to 3.5 million people a day this transport network also includes Hong Kong Tramways and Bus and ferry services, Bus service is run by five different companies on franchise system, operating about 700 routes within and across the territory. Port of Hong Kong is one of the busiest deepwater ports well known for container and cargo shipping.
Hong Kong International Airport is one of the most busy airports in the world serving nearly 50 million passengers and nearly 5 million tons of cargo per year; this airport is ranked as the best airport in the world in several surveys. This airport provides services to most of the international and domestic flights to Hong Kong and also serves as a hub for many international airlines including Dragonair, Hong Kong Airlines, Hong Kong Express, Cathay Pacific and Air Hong Kong.
