Niagara may be the most powerful waterfall and Victoria may be the most visited, but none of them can compete in immensity with Iguazu falls of Argentina. It’s not a single fall but a network of 275 falls that cover an area of more than 2 miles. The vastness of the fall and its picture perfect surroundings make most of the visitors gasp. The power of the fall is evident by the way the water bounces back after hitting the pool of water beneath it.
The Argentinean tourism board has given Iguazu and the area around it the status of a national park. There is no international airport in the area so you will be taking direct flights to Buenos Aires, and then you can take a local flight with Aerolineas Argentinas to the Puerto Iguazu Airport that is 20 km away from the park. You can take a bus or hire a car from the airport for the park; the entry fee of the park is around 10 GBP.
There a number of ways in which you can explore the park, you may decide to do it by yourself but you will have a better chance of enjoying its beauty in company of a seasoned guide. You can camp anywhere in the park but the most famous spot and to which you will find most of the visitors heading to is the Devil’s Throat, a 2300 feet long horse shoe shaped fall that is 269 feet wide. You can take a ride on the tour bus available in the park and explore its different parts. A train called the Forest Train is also a good option for the tour of the park especially if you don’t have the time to stay there for a couple of days. The fee for this train is around 25 GBP and the service runs throughout the day.
You can travel to the park at any time of the year, but try to avoid it during January and during Easter vacation as the place will get really crammed up with the visitors from within the Argentina and from the neighboring Brazil. You will not be able to completely enjoy the beauty of the place because of the crowd plus the prices during this season will be high as well. May and June are the months when the most rains fall in the area and it is recommended that you try to avoid this season as well. The best time to visit is the month of October when the prices are low and the temperature is warm perfect for an enjoyable vacation in Iguazu. Check with us for cheap flights to Buenos Aires.
